New location with expanded kitchens and improved interior layout opens Thursday morning in

Wichita

WICHITA, Kan. (April 29, 2026)– QuikTrip store design is not something that changes often — and that is

by choice. The company’s newest store, opening at 5:30 a.m. Thursday at 1668 S. 135th St. W. in Wichita,

is part of the first major redesign of a QT convenience store since 2010. The new format reflects how

customer expectations have evolved while staying true to the operational model that has defined

QuikTrip for decades.

Rather than frequent redesigns, QT has historically taken a long-term approach to store development.

The Gen 4 concept is the result of a three-year process shaped by extensive input from employees across

operations, store development, food service and real estate, as well as direct customer feedback.

“For nearly 70 years, QuikTrip’s success has been driven by the people who work in our stores and

support them behind the scenes,” said QuikTrip Corporate Communications Manager Aisha Jefferson.

“Gen 4 shows what happens when you design around the people who know our customers best and give

them the tools to serve them even better.”

A thoughtful evolution

QuikTrip’s Gen 4 design is intentionally familiar, while addressing how shopping habits inside

convenience stores are changing. At approximately 6,300 square feet, the store is larger than a

traditional QT location but smaller than a travel center, balancing efficiency with added flexibility.

Expanded storefront windows and a glass vestibule create a brighter, more welcoming environment

while improving temperature control and cleanliness. Inside, refined sightlines and a streamlined

checkstand layout help employees move customers through more quickly during peak hours.

The store also includes eight individual, family-friendly restrooms — including four ADA-compliant units

with baby changing stations — allowing for easier maintenance and greater availability.

Food

As made-to-order food becomes a larger part of the QT experience, Gen 4 significantly expands the

store’s kitchen footprint, roughly doubling its size compared to previous designs. Additional space for kiosk ordering, food pickup and a dedicated waiting area helps reduce congestion

and improve flow during busy periods.

Behind the scenes, expanded storage and an improved kitchen layout give employees more flexibility to

manage inventory, maintain equipment, and keep popular items in stock – changes driven directly by

store teams managing peak-hour demand.

The new location, QuikTrip’s 39th in the Wichita area, also maintains the same fueling experience

customers expect from QT, with no changes to pump layout or access.

Built for the long term

While the Gen 4 store introduces modern design elements, QuikTrip leaders emphasize that the goal was

not to follow trends, but to build a format that can adapt over time.

The design allows for future testing of site-specific pickup or delivery options without requiring major

structural changes.

“QT has never been about doing something new just to say we did it,” said Kelli Ostmeyer, QuikTrip Vice

President of Store Design and Projects.

“Gen 4 is about getting it right – and staying flexible so we can

keep delivering the excellent experience our customers expect.”

Each new QT store creates approximately two dozen local jobs, offering competitive pay, tuition

reimbursement, medical coverage and comprehensive 401(k) benefits. QuikTrip continues to receive

national recognition as a top employer, reflecting a culture focused on employee development and long-

term career opportunities. Interested applicants can learn more and apply online at QuikTrip.com/store-

Beyond store operations, QT also maintains a deep commitment to the communities where it operates,

donating 5% of annual net profits to charitable organizations, with a focus supporting public safety and

at-risk youth. In Wichita, QuikTrip and city leaders recently celebrated a partnership to expand the

Wichita Police Department’s Drone as First Responder program, along with a significant donation to the

Wichita Housing and Community Services Department. More information about QT’s charitable

initiatives and grant opportunities is available at quiktrip.com/community.

The first Gen 4 store opened on April 16 in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, and an additional Gen 4 store is

opening Thursday in Joplin, Missouri.

Since its founding in 1958, QT has expanded its footprint to more than 1,200 stores across 22 states and

employs more than 32,000 people.
